Event Day(s):
Sunday 27 July, 10:00-16:00, Church Green
What word would you use for, say, a bread roll, a hedgehog, a daddy-long-legs if you were chatting with friends or family?
Bring along your favourite words for everyday things and join in the Dales Countryside Museum's Great Big Dialect Hunt! They're on the hunt for words and phrases you might use with family and friends, maybe traditional or local to where you live, to help them learn more about dialect and tell the story of all the wonderful words out there and where they came from.
Be a part of history, see how your familiar words compare with those gathered by fieldworkers from Leeds University in the 1950s and 60s, and spot similarities across the Yorkshire and Westmorland Dales.
